The Walkmen to Reunite for First Concerts Since 2013

The Walkmen will reunite for a string of shows at New York’s Webster Hall. The band’s first official performances in a decade will take place on April 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28, 2023. Watch a trailer for the concerts below.

In a press release, Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser said of the reunion:

Back in 2013, an unnamed Walkmen band member (Peter Bauer) announced to The Washington Post that we were going on an “extreme hiatus.” I assumed that meant there would be a lot of Monster Energy drinks and maybe that red-headed snowboarder guy would be hanging around a lot… but none of that actually happened. Instead, in the ensuing years we’ve all worked on a ton of different projects in a ton of different places. Recently, someone sent us a clip of us playing at Irving Plaza from 2003, and it just looked very exciting. So, we’ve decided we’d like to play together again. Right now, we are very thrilled to announce that we will be playing at Webster Hall on April 26 & 27. See you soon.

The Walkmen’s last album was 2012’s Heaven, and, aside from a one-off show at an NBA All-Star Game party in 2014, they have not played live since their 2013 tour. Since then, Leithauser has released Black Hours and The Loves of Your Life, as well as the Rostam collaboration I Had a Dream That You Were Mine. He also collaborated with his Walkmen bandmate Paul Maroon on Dear God.

Maroon, the Walkmen’s guitarist, shared Instrumental Music in 2020. More recently, he collaborated with Jenny Lin on 13 Short Piano Pieces.

Walkmen bassist Peter Matthew Bauer has released three solo studio albums since the band began its hiatus: 2014’s Liberation!, 2017’s Mount Qaf (Divine Love), and, this September, Flowers.

Multi-instrumentalist Walter Martin has shared several albums in recent years, the latest one being March’s The Bear. He has also made music for films, notably contributing to Matt Berninger and Phoebe Bridgers’ Between Two Ferns: The Movie song “Walking on a String,” and making “Do-Dilly-Do (A Friend Like You)” for 2019’s Missing Link.

Drummer Matt Barrick is the lone Walkmen member who has not released a solo record since the band began its hiatus. He has, however, remained an active collaborator, working on music with Maggie Rogers, Indigo Sparke, the Hold Steady, Fleet Foxes, Matt Berninger, Boots, and more. He also teamed up with Paul Banks and Josh Kaufman in the group Muzz.
